7 07 2008

This is a wonderful idea. Wooden pallets are available in every corner of the world and correspondingly inexpensive. Often they are scrapped. Sure the wood isn’t usually top quality but as internal structure for adobe it need only be srong, not pretty.

windbelt micro-wind power generation

12 10 2007

sustainability iconA new twist on wind turbines. This young inventor wanted a super cheap method for generating power on a micro scale and has achieved this by using a technique known as flutter. Wind flutter occurs when wind flows across a high tension strip causing it to flutter. The flutter effect is converted to energy at the end simply by placing the high tension strip between some coils.

ultimate live performing rig

25 11 2006

Laptop IconI have just posted this on VJ Forums

I am wondering what the ‘Ultimate’ (entry-level) live performing rig would consist of.

I am at the stage where I need to get a dedicated box, probably before a new years party next month.

I figure if I can work out what the ulitmate rig is, and the cost, I can take steps backwards until I hit my maximum price point.

I have been scrounging articles from around the place and have come up with a couple of possibilities. For obvious reasons a kick ass laptop would be pretty good. Nice and portable. Plenty of speed, and little power consumption. Something like an
Alienware Aurora™ m9700 or Sagar NP9890-V . The Alienware seem better specc’d with the Dual Sli cards. But there is a lot of bad talk about poor build quality and crappy service, 15% charges on returns etc etc. So I think it would be a bit silly to buy from them.

Gadgets IconOk so you’re a regular swashbuckler. You live on a rusty and battered oil rig and ply your trade off the Caribbean Isles in fair weather or foul. Evey good pirate hulk these days has a fat broadband connection to while away those lazy summer days, so it should come as no surprise that you can get a custom keyboard. Especially designed for chatting away in messenger or irc.

vancouver’s footpath gardens, photoblog

photos iconI think I may have mentioned this recently. Now I have the photo to show you what I mean. Vancouver’s central city residents have a habit of digging up the council’s grass edging a turning it into a garden. So lovely to see. It sure beats all this wasted water to keep lawns immaculate. click here for photoblog
