Took a trip in to Calgary today and I drove home. I have driven a couple of times already on the right side, but only in Olds and it hasn’t really been a problem. Same same really and the steering wheel on the left side keeps you focused on staying right.
We managed to leave town at 4:30 just in time for rush hour. Wasn’t so bad really and got to the North highway heading out of town. Had a scary incident however when the vehicle ahead of me slowed to avoid a backed up exit lane. I jumped on the anchors and avoided them easily as I had a good safe following distance. The big ass fuel guzzling pickup behind me towing their big ass trailer full of ‘phat loot’ wasn’t so lucky. They locked up and charged towards the rear of the [borrowed!] car. I jammed on the gas and swerved left a bit, but by that time it was too late for them. Their trailer jack knifed and passed them sideways, while they drove right to get around us. The rear-view mirror filled with dust as the trailer presumably came off and left the motorway. The pick up was probably lucky to stay up right. There was nothing we could do as still in traffic so just drove on. Great relief that we managed to avoid an incident.
Heard on the radio a little while later a traffic report that included the “overturned trailer” at whatever exit it was. Didn’t mention the pickup – so must have been OK.
It is the same the world over. Arrogant people, in their big fuck off vehicles, thinking they own the road, following too closely and paying the price. So many people drive with their heads up their ass – make sure it’s not you. Please drive safe everyone…
Tomorrow: start of recipes and a phone call to someone who responded to a CV I sent off…
