Well last night decided to check out the local trance scene. Headed off around 11 pm into town to an Organix party to see Eskimo (Junya) play. Organix have a regular Friday night slot at Club 23 West.
We always knew it would be on the cheesier side of things but figured it would be worth a look anyway, see what parties here are like. As a party it was ok, a good number of people filling the smallish venue. Maybe 250 people in a sunken dance floor with elevated bar / dj area. People seemed to be loving it. Music was pretty cheesy. We just laughed our way through until closing time at 3am after dancing for 4 hours. Felt great to have a dance anyway.
Visuals playing on a number of screens as well as TV’s but I don’t tihnk anyone was actually VJ’ing. Bit of a shame. Lots of UV backdrops but no other deco. UV was spoilt (as it so often is) but an abundance of lighting. Was just too light. Lazers to boot.
Crowd was pretty up for a dance, although not too many hard core party people, although a good representation from the Japanese contingent. Pretty low dread count, but two trippers in kilts made up for it. I don’t know how many psychedelics were flowing, but then again who wants to be tripping when the venue closes at 3am and you find your self thrown out onto the street.
Looking online it seems there are a few party organisations doing gigs so maybe there will be something darker and serious, more to my liking but I won’t hold my hopes up for it.
Next gig is an outdoor party, re:genesis with a couple of [old school] Swedish acts, Chromosome and Andromeda who I haven’t heard anything from since 2002 maybe? Chillout zone as well with Soul Surfer and Anahata which may be cool as well. Trouble is I think we’ll be back in Alberta. Maybe we can arrange something. Be good to party outdoors even if it is progressive.
