So day two dawned beautiful and sunny (as it has been nearly every day since we arrived in Vancouver, although it is noticeably cooler now) and I was up with the Robins and seeing pranabanana off at the bus stop.
I took a circuitous route back to say the least. Alleyways are great. This is not something we have back in NZ, and I didn’t even see that much of it in the UK either. Most blocks are split into two or four areas with back alleys running behind all the houses. All the rubbish and recycling bins are here and it is where most people leave their Magpie pickings for the likes of me!
It was a good haul. You can see the results in my photoblog.

Just when you though it might be safe to go outdoors, the zombies invade. No seriously. Well if you are whiling away the day, and wanted some light relief that is.
I hope that from time to time you stop to think about scale. I don’t quite know when it happened to me, but sometime in the last 4 years (the time of oh so many awakenings for me) I realised a lot more about my place in the universe.
Most of us have come a ‘long’ way since the flat earth days, and the earth centric view of the universe. Sure we may not understand too much more than the big bang theory, but we at least have some idea of earth in the solar system, and possibly the solar system in the galaxy, and maybe just maybe, our galaxy in relation to the other galaxies.
Well it has certainly been pretty full on yesterday and today. Still it is all coming together well. While pranabanana went out and earned us some money I traipsed about the place seeing what I could manifest. We have done pretty well so far. You can see a bit of the new apartment and see it changing.
I’ll update some more tomorrow but in the mean time here is a photoblog entry for you.

So yesterday morning while I was walking pranabanana to her bus stop we passed a 2 seater couch beside a dumpster. We poked around and it looked pretty respectable. Wow – this would be great for our new place eh?
I got back to the apartment we have been staying at in Kitsilano and hunted for anyone and everyone who might have a van to be rented in Vancouver. After a number of phone calls I determined that there was no easy way to get a van. Vancouver is the first place I have lived where leases (on the whole) start and finish on the 1st of the month. This makes it nearly impossible to organise a moving van unless you happen to know a reasonable distance in advance, or are able to shift before, or after, the 1st of the month.
Al Gore has spoken out at the Edinburgh Television Festival commenting that the media has a lot to answer for it’s take on “democracy”. He believes that it is the media’s job to enable a country to be democratic.
He implies that mass media is allowing what he believes to be a more controlled and centralised form of government simply by failing to address issues that need to be addressed and by failing to be un-partisan, while at the same time being consolidated into the hands of just a few individuals.
Was sent this clip by a friend today. It is a music video (amateur) but very clever using a bunch of treadmills as a dance platform. Humorously choreographed and very well executed – and the music isn’t even terrible. How about that?
