Well to complete the transition back to civilisation we have got a new cellphone. It is shiny and came in a box. The reason we have a new phone as opposed to using one of the three we had access to was that one will not work in North America and the other two are
T phones. T is the comparable monopoly telecommunications company to every other country I have been to. Crap. My first experience was trying to get some email questions answered in Olds. I was directed to email the email people with my support call. I told the monkey that as the problem was with email that was not acceptable as the sole method for contacting email support. He somehow missed the irony.
So after browsing the web and scoping out the local providers I had decided that as we had two perfectly good
T phones we would save the cost of a phone and the disposal of another lithium battery by getting one hooked up on pre pay. When I called at an agents shop I was informed of a $60 fee to “Change the Nameholder” from Father to Daughter and a $30 Sign Up fee that was invisible on their web site.I walked out.
Well after checking out phone prices and seeing them in the ridiculous price range I finally went back to ‘ol
VM with a new N phone. At least the N has a good interface and easy to use text messaging, something that seems to be tacked on as an afterthought here because so few people text in Canada.
All we have to do now is cover up the branding on it phone. Customise it a bit. Maybe tint the windows. Funk it up with some fur or something, anything to get it looking a little different from the shiny, consumptive fashion accessory it appears to be. Maybe ill have a go at making one of those old school plastic handsets?
