Just came across a posting that said Stargate SG1 was going to be wound up at the end of it’s 10th season next year. I have been a big fan of SG1, since my brother started collecting them on DVD. It makes such a difference to be able to watch a series as and when you want (without any ads). We started on the way back machine at Season One, Episode One and worked through about five seasons (or 14 odd DVD’s) before having to relinquish the DVD’s as we left the country.
I have always enjoyed the cheesy effects, and sets, while reveling in the meta-plot and the excellent one off episodes. It is the sort of series that by season 5 has rolled around there is more than enough back story that whole episodes can revolve around just one or two team members, locked in a storage locker, with nothing to do but talk to each other, while trying to starve of the effects of an alien brain hugger. Great stuff … well if you are a Sci Fi nerd it is, and come on, admit it, you are too.
The producers have said that they are going to fight the decision, even if that mean they have to go to another network, so all hope is not lost. I haven’t seen any of the recent seasons, but it may well be time to can it anyway, past it’s sniff by date perhaps? We will just have to wait and see I guess.
