Al Gore has spoken out at the Edinburgh Television Festival commenting that the media has a lot to answer for it’s take on “democracy”. He believes that it is the media’s job to enable a country to be democratic.
He implies that mass media is allowing what he believes to be a more controlled and centralised form of government simply by failing to address issues that need to be addressed and by failing to be un-partisan, while at the same time being consolidated into the hands of just a few individuals.
“the only thing that matters in American politics now is having enough money to put 30-second commercials on air to persuade the voters to elect or re-elect you.”
He is currently in the UK promoting his book and movie Inconvienient Truth. All I can say is that I hope Al manages to sneak in to the presidents position.
