I have been pretty much out of the loop when it comes to computer games. I used to be an avid gamer spending hours each day playing online massively multiplayer games. But my life changed drastically once I got to London, and I just have other things to do these days.
When I asked a good friend of mine a while back if he was gaming much he replied ‘why would I spend my time in online games making my character better, when I could spend time in the real world making myself better’. I couldn’t have said it any better. He is a wise lad.
So it was only by chance I stumbled upon some shots from the upcoming Crysis game which were a comparison between real photos and in game screenshots. It took a while for it to sink in as I had no idea what Crysis was. When I clicked I was stunned at the level of graphics detail.
Here have a look and see what I mean.

At this resolution it is pretty hard to spot any difference. There are some links below to the full size image, and another site with more photos.
So the gaming world is pushing the envelope in photorealistic games. About damn time! Now where is my photorealistic VR?
