So the big news of last week was that I not only managed to get an interview through one of the two recruiters that I was focusing on using, but I also managed to get offered a contract. This is simultaneously the best of news and the worst of news.
It has been the better part of a year since I have had to get up on or around the crack of dawn, to go and work for the man. Consequently I am a little apprehensive at just how well my re-integration will go. I have to slip back into the persona of me “the friendly, knowledgeable, IT support person” rather than just being myself. Past experience has taught me that the best approach is to go fully undercover. Take on this alter ego role completely, otherwise things have a habit of slipping out and around the edges, and making people look at you strange.
So as far as I understand it, the contract is working in the Active Directory team for a large retailer/e-tailer, assisting in the migration of their AD domains to the outsourcing IT company who I actually working for. I think. Well I am GST registered, and considered a sole proprietor, contracting through an agency, to the outsourcing company, at the e-tailors. You can see why it all gets a bit confusing.
The good news is that I have a contract for 10 months at a rate $5/hr higher than I was asking for so I am now officially living in vancouver. It finally feels like I have landed.
It probably helps that we also unpacked the last three big boxes of stuff, some from NZ, some from Alberta. Most of it was clothes and kitchen stuff so it hasn’t even cluttered up the place, which is good.
We have had a pretty relaxing weekend here, with a short foray to Valu Village, although there wasn’t anything really satisfying there. I got a shirt and tie type shirt, and a golf type shirt. I hope that will get me through the week. It has to really.
We have just come back from a walk to a local park with a small lake in it and come home to see a stunning sunset over the downtown high rises. Walking is excellent!
Blog posts will probably drop off considerably while I work at getting my work life into gear. Then again I don’t have a lot on plate for after work hours so we’ll see.
